Barcode Basics
Basically there are 2 types of barcodes available in the market today. The 1-D barcodes are the common barcodes that we see everyday on items such as a bar of chocolate. There are many barcode symbologies that are 1-D, the more common ones being Code 39, Interleaved 2 of 5, EAN-13, UPC-A and Code 128. They are common and scannable using most common barcode readers.

These barcodes are read from left to right or in some cases, bi-directional.
The 2-D barcodes allow storage of larger pieces of information and there are a few types of barcodes of this type. PDF-417, Codabar and Datamatrix are some examples of 2-D barcodes.

Try to avoid artworks in jpg or gif formats, as these formats are unsuitable for high resolution printing. However, if this is unavoidable, prepare them in resolution of 300 dpi or higher.
We carry a wide range of fonts in-house but to be sure of accurate font reproduction, please send the fonts you used to us in true-type format (.ttf) or convert the fonts to curves before sending them to us.

UL and CSA Listings
UL (Underwriter’s Laboratory) and CSA (Canadian Standards Association) are two certification bodies in the in US and Canada respectively that conduct tests on products and components for safety. These tests represent the standard for the industry to ensure the safety of the products. Zephyr has invested tremendous amount of resources in this certification.

There are two types of UL recognition for labels, Marking and Labeling Systems (PGDQ2) and Printing Materials (PGJI2). To put it simply, PGDQ2 refers to the labels that are pasted onto the product when you receive while PGJI2 applies to the labels that require subsequent printing at your plant (such as Serial Numbers and Batch Number).
